Introduction to Optionomics

Welcome to the complete options intelligence platform

Welcome to Optionomics

Optionomics is an options analysis platform that combines real-time options flow data, historical analytics, and AI-powered insights to help you analyze the options market more effectively.

What is Optionomics?

We built Optionomics to solve a problem we faced as traders: understanding what institutional players are doing in the options market. When you see unusual options activity or complex gamma exposure patterns, it’s often unclear what it means or whether it’s significant. Our platform helps you cut through the noise.

Here’s what you can do with Optionomics:

  • Track Smart Money: See large institutional options trades as they happen during market hours. When a hedge fund buys $500K worth of calls or someone sweeps the entire bid, you’ll know about it. This gives you insight into where sophisticated players are positioning.

  • Leverage AI Analysis: Get plain-English explanations of complex market data. Click on any chart or metric and the AI will explain what you’re looking at, why it matters, and what patterns it recognizes. It’s like having an experienced options trader sitting next to you.

  • Research Historical Patterns: Access years of historical options data with our “time travel” feature. Go back to any trading day and see exactly what the data looked like. This is invaluable for backtesting strategies, understanding how patterns developed before major moves, and learning what actually works.

  • Analyze Advanced Metrics: We calculate dozens of metrics from raw options chain data—gamma exposure, volatility skew, put/call ratios, max pain, and more. These help you understand market structure, identify support/resistance levels from options positioning, and gauge sentiment.

  • Build Custom Alerts: Set up notifications for specific market conditions that match your trading strategy. Get alerted when unusual activity happens in your watchlist stocks, when gamma exposure reaches certain levels, or when specific flow patterns appear.

Key Platform Features

Real-Time Options Flow (Gamma Plan+)

Our flow scanner shows large options trades as they happen during market hours. The system processes every trade and flags the ones that matter—large premiums, aggressive execution (paying above ask or selling below bid), sweep orders across multiple exchanges, and trades that are unusual relative to typical activity.

You’ll see exactly what was traded: the stock, strike price, expiration date, call or put, buy or sell, and the total premium (dollar amount). Filter by minimum premium size, specific stocks, trade types, or sentiment to focus on what matters to your strategy.

AI-Powered Analysis (Theta Plan+)

Ever look at a gamma exposure chart and think “okay, but what does this actually mean for this stock?” That’s where the AI helps. Click on any chart, metric, or unusual trade and ask the AI to explain it.

The AI looks at the specific data you’re viewing, considers the context (like recent price action, upcoming events, market conditions), and explains it in plain English. It will tell you what’s notable, what patterns it recognizes from historical data, and what typically happens in similar situations. It’s not making predictions—it’s helping you understand what you’re looking at.

Advanced Analytics (All Plans)

Every trading day, we take the raw options chain data (thousands of strikes and expirations) and calculate meaningful metrics that help you understand what’s actually happening:

  • Gamma Exposure (GEX): Shows where market makers (dealers) have the most exposure. These levels often act as support or resistance because dealers have to buy or sell stock to hedge their positions as prices move.

  • Options Walls: Strike prices where lots of options are concentrated. Think of these as price levels where there’s significant options-related activity that might influence where the stock moves.

  • Volatility Metrics: Tells you if options are expensive or cheap compared to their history. High IV rank means options are more expensive than usual, low means cheaper than usual.

  • Put/Call Ratios: Simple comparison of put activity vs call activity. High ratio = more put activity (could be bearish or hedging). Low ratio = more call activity (typically bullish).

  • Max Pain Analysis: The price where the most options would expire worthless. Useful for understanding potential price targets near expiration.

All these metrics are calculated for you—no spreadsheets or complex formulas needed.

Historical Data (All Plans)

Our “time travel” feature lets you go back to any past trading day and see exactly what the data looked like then. Select a date, and you’ll see the options chain, gamma exposure, volatility metrics, and flow data as they appeared on that day.

This is incredibly useful for:

  • Backtesting: “If I had used this strategy during the 2020 volatility spike, what would have happened?”
  • Pattern Learning: “What did gamma exposure look like before that gamma squeeze in GME?”
  • Strategy Development: “Does high put/call ratio actually predict bottoms in this stock?”
  • Event Analysis: “How did options positioning change leading up to that earnings surprise?”

You’re not just looking at end-of-day prices—you’re seeing the full options market structure from any point in history.

Developer API (Vega Plan)

Access all platform data programmatically via REST API. This is for developers who want to build their own tools, run systematic strategies, or integrate Optionomics data into existing trading systems.

The API gives you access to:

  • Real-time and historical options chain data (strikes, prices, volume, open interest)
  • Stock quotes and market data
  • Calculated metrics (gamma exposure, volatility, sentiment, etc.)
  • Options flow data
  • Unusual activity alerts

Rate limit is 100 requests per minute. Full API documentation with code examples is available once you have a Vega plan.

Who Uses Optionomics?

The platform works for different trading approaches. Here’s how different types of traders use it:

  • Day Traders: Use real-time flow to spot momentum before it shows up on the chart. When you see aggressive call sweeps coming in on a stock, that’s often a signal that something is about to move. Day traders also use unusual activity alerts to get notified the moment significant trades happen in their watchlist.

  • Swing Traders: Focus on positioning changes over days and weeks. Look at how gamma exposure is building, whether put/call ratios are reaching extremes, and how volatility is trending. Swing traders often use historical data to understand how similar setups played out in the past.

  • Options Sellers: Use volatility metrics to find opportunities where IV is high relative to history (expensive options to sell). Check gamma exposure to understand where you might face assignment risk. Use options walls to identify strikes that might see a lot of trading activity.

  • Researchers: Dive into years of historical data to backtest strategies and understand what actually works. The time travel feature lets you replay entire trading periods to see how your strategy would have performed with real market data.

  • Developers: Use the API (Vega plan) to build custom tools, automate strategies, or integrate Optionomics data into existing trading systems. Access all the same data that powers the web platform programmatically.

Why We Built This

We’re traders who got tired of cobbling together multiple expensive tools and still not having the full picture. One service for flow data, another for gamma calculations, a third for historical backtesting—it adds up quickly and the tools often don’t talk to each other.

Optionomics brings institutional-grade options data and analysis into one platform at a fraction of the cost. Instead of paying $500+/month for multiple services, you get everything in one place starting at $9/month for analytics, or $59/month for real-time flow.

The platform is built for speed—data updates in real-time during market hours, charts load quickly, and the interface is responsive. Most importantly, the AI feature actually helps you understand what you’re looking at instead of just throwing more numbers at you. It’s like having someone who’s traded options for years explaining the data in plain English.
